Some of the best home appliances take complicated machineries and make them simple and easy to use. For example, they simplify the process of getting water to a perfect temperature or extracting the fairly delicate flavors using high pressure. Commercial coffee makers can certainly do all of these but they still require a separate (not to mention expensive) grinder and you also need to tamp each pull. Furthermore, these super automatic espresso machines are very difficult to clean and maintain. After trying many different kinds of home espresso machines over the years, I was very excited to try the best single serve coffee maker in the market today – the Jura ENA Micro 9!

Jura ENA Micro 9 - Specifications

This single cup coffee maker is the newest countertop automatic coffee center from the renowned Swiss manufacturer, Jura. It’s a cute, sleek, modern, and adjustable coffee machine that can quickly brew your choice of hot caffeinated beverage like coffees, espressos, cappuccinos, macchiatos, and many more. It can also dispense hot water for tea or chocolate-flavored beverage. It’s no wonder the ENA Micro 9 has won several awards and is considered one of the best coffee makers in the world today!

Out of the box (and despite the complicated mechanisms at work inside the unit), this one cup coffee maker is easy to set up and is relatively simple to use. It has a traffic light display so Green means good and ready to brew, Yellow tells you the machine is busy and in programming mode, while Red means something is wrong (like you need to perform cleanup or some sort of maintenance). Initially it takes a few minutes to heat up the water but the machine is ready to use almost as soon as it is plugged in. The water reservoir is easily accessible and holds more than enough water for five or six espressos without having to refill. This coffee maker with grinder also comes with an optional water filter that fits snugly into the water reservoir as well as a water testing strip that you can use to test the water quality in your home. Cleanup is a breeze thanks to the combination of an automatic cleaning system and a water filtration system that help eliminate the need to decalcify (this also removes that chlorine taste you are likely used to).

One of the best things about this hot chocolate maker is the ‘Fine Foam Technology’. You, too, will be a big fan of the frother, I guarantee it! The frothers have two chambers that froth the milk twice! The reason behind this is that this will pop a lot of the big bubbles that the first froth has created so the end result will be a fine, light, and very thick foam that seems to last forever! It’s definitely something worth seeing in person because there’s nothing else quite like it.

There’s a familiar rotary dial on top of this Jura coffee maker that allows you to make easy programming changes to how much milk is used as well as the volume and strength of the coffee. You can dial in your settings exactly the way you like it for a consistent product every time you hit the button. This small coffee maker also has a professional-grade conical burr grinder with five grind settings ranging from coarse to fine. One piece of advice – make sure you set it to coarse if you like dark and oily beans or you may have some clogging problems.

  • Wide range of brewing specialties (latte macchiato, cappuccino, café crème, espresso, hot water, etc.)
  • Sealed compartments to keep beans fresh
  • Has a ground coffee bypass shoot
  • Built-in multi-level conical burr grinder
  • Automatic cleaning & filtration systems
  • Expensive (both the unit itself and the filters)
  • Water tank only holds up to 37 ounces
  • No actual temperature setting
  • Some parts are made of chrome-plated plastic instead of stainless steel
  • Auto froth only

In all, the Jura ENA Micro 9 makes an amazing coffee, cappuccino, espresso, latte macchiato, café crème, and a whole lot more! Jura takes everything into account to create the perfect machine for brewing things right. Time, temperature, and pressure are all accounted for in order to create that one amazing cup with a thick, rich crema floating on top. It is a sleek piece of machinery that will replace all your other machines like a bean grinder, hot water pot, milk frother, beans container, etc. and it can do all of these at the push of a button… literally!

  1. This is a solid and easy to use machine that makes the best espresso I’ve ever tasted. Use fresh whole beans of your choice and it will consistently pull a perfect shot that is hot with at least 1/2 inch of crema!
