The LeapFrog LeapPad 2 Explorer not only is the best tablet for kids but it’s also a complete revamp of the original LeapPad Explorer which was a huge hit when it debuted back in 2011. In this newer model, LeapFrog has revamped it to give the new Explorer more memory, better battery life, and lots of other cool features. The LeapPad 2 has a sleek new look and is available in blue, green, or pink. It has a growing library of more than 325 games, apps, videos, music, and more that will be added every month. This LeapFrog tablet is perfect for kids ages three to nine and it works with all the LeapFrog Explorer cartridges and apps, all the LeapPad learning apps, and any app that you have already purchased for the original LeapPad.
This educational toy features two built-in cameras–one on the back and another on the front–so kids can also take pictures of themselves. It has a built-in microphone and you can take videos as well as pictures. The amount of storage space has been doubled to 4GB and it now has a faster processor which means that all the games, apps, eBooks, etc. are all going to run much smoother. It comes with five learning apps: there’s Pet Pad where kids can create and take care of a pet, the Learning Songs app is a music player with five songs, Cartoon Director lets kids create animated cartoons, and Art Studio lets kids edit pictures. The Pet Pad and Learning Songs apps are built-in. For Cartoon Director and Art Studio, you just connect this kid-friendly tablet to a computer with the included USB cable, register the device, go to the LeapFrog app center, and these two apps will be downloaded automatically. Now, the fifth app is your choice. You can choose whatever app, game, video, etc. you want to add to the LeapPad 2. All the apps and games and everything else that you want after that will have to be purchased separately.
When using this mini tablet, you can touch the five-inch colored screen with the included stylus or your finger. For the games and books there’s an accelerometer so as your child is reading or playing, there might be parts of the game or book where your kid has to shake the tablet for motion-based play. There are also new ultra eBooks and these are written in three reading levels and the stories progress from simple text to more complex words and sentences as your kid’s reading skills also progress. The LeapPad 2 remembers progress from game to game and book to book to keep the content challenging and to keep kids engaged. It does use batteries so you’ll need four AA batteries (not included in the package) and you can get about nine hours of battery life. If you don’t want to use batteries, it does have a recharger pack which is sold separately but this takes the original LeapPad to a whole new level!

LeapFrog has always made quality and cool toys for kids and this one is no different. It has a built-in camera for pictures and videos and to help with social skills, you can take pictures of kids displaying various emotions. You can also take a video of actions to help with motor planning. There are matching games, spelling games, and many more to help with academics. This is a well-rounded learning toy to assist both typical and special-needs kids. You will love the new look of this device — it’s a tablet for kids but it doesn’t look like a toy.
